Featuring Jon & Gill Varty
In this programme from the locally produced Lessons from the wild series, a lioness, through the use of stunning wildlife footage, is used as the metaphor to explore the concept of innovation, allowing for new ideas and developing implementation techniques. The video tells a story of a young two-day-old lioness cub that was found by the Varty's and reared to adulthood.
The manner in which they did this challenged the conventions of human/animal interaction as well as the traditional wisdom of lion pride behaviour. The story includes spectacular footage of the interaction between Gill Varty and the young, adolescent and then fully-grown lioness, named Shingalana. Filmed at Londolozi, Mphumalanga and then in Zambia as they prepare for Shingalana's release, the drama unfolds when they introduce Shingalana into a local pride of lions. While the males appear to be friendly, the females adopt a very different set of behaviours - with disastrous consequences. This video demonstrates the metaphor of resistance to change; of how new ideas and new ways of doing things are often rejected simply because they are new.

To provide individuals with the right frame of mind for generating new and workable ideas.
This complementary programme to Mark Brown's Ideas into action focuses on the idea-generating phase of the creative-thinking process. Versatile, inspiring and highly watchable, it mixes animation with live action to highlight the largely self-imposed limitations of our thinking and shows how to overcome them.
The key messages it demonstrates will enable viewers to create a frame of mind conducive to innovative thinking, and to know when to use one- two- and three-dimensional thinking.
This creative resource can be used to develop an open-minded, motivated atmosphere at the start of any session where people are trying to think up innovative, effective ideas; to boost courses on creative thinking and problem solving; and to run an idea-generating workshop, prompted in the accompanying guide.
The key outcomes
Overcome self-imposed limitations
Think more creatively and innovatively in the workplace

To enable people to turn good ideas into effective action.
The green stage of Mark Brown's creative-thinking process enables people to translate ideas into action and make things happen. Using a 'four-box model', it introduces a framework for empowerment - this enables people to take the initiative and motivates them to be responsible for their own ideas.
This inspirational programme mixes live action and animation to convey its message and is targeted both at individuals and managers. Individuals will be encouraged to 'happen to the world', not let 'the world happen to them'. They will understand when and how to apply initiative and creativity.
For managers who are keen to empower their people it will help them hand over responsibility without losing control, and give people space to realise their creative potential. This will release dynamism and creativity into the organisation.
The programme also includes an activities manual to help direct creative thinking.
The key outcomes
Increases motivation through putting ideas into workable solutions
Learn how, and when, to apply creativity and initiative

Anyone who needs to challenge the way they think will benefit from this visually stimulating and highly entertaining resource.
Based upon the work of Mark Brown of Innovation Centre Europe, this exciting programme looks at the barriers to profitrelated creative thinking and suggests some simple but powerful ways to overcome them. It shows how constantly stimulating creativity and innovation is key to coming up with viable ideas for products and services, and processes and procedures that your customers (internal and external) really want.
It explores the difference between a 'dinosaur' and 'dolphin' outlook, and looks at why we tend to restrict thinking to self-imposed limits, how we can avoid idea assassination, and how to take the initiative and translate ideas into action.

Featuring John Cleese
The hidden mind
To dispel the belief that fast decision-making is best and to show the importance of allowing the unconscious thinking process time and space to flourish.
In this lecture John Cleese challenges the basis of the decision-making processes prevalent in most of today's organisations. Cleese proposes that there is a pressing need to harness the power of unconscious thinking. Allow the 'tortoise mind' to overtake the 'hare brain' and more fresh and unusual ideas will be the result.
Creativity in management: Open and closed modes of thinking
To help people understand how to think creatively.
In this lecture-style presentation, John Cleese talks about how leaders can induce an open mode in their team members and establish confidence in them to accept that there is a succession of learning steps on the road to total quality.
The importance of mistakes
Adventures of Gordon the guided missileThe aimTo create a more relaxed attitude in which creativity can flourish.
Cleese tackles the thought provoking idea that mistakes are a crucial part of the creative process. He shows that each mistake is a valuable lesson leading people towards the correct solution. He suggests that the fear of taking risks and making mistakes can stifle individual and group creativity and kill innovation.

Do you have a vision for your organization? More importantly, do you have one for yourself? One that gets you excited every morning and keeps you open to possibilities? Celebrate What's Right with The World teaches what a powerful force having a vision of possibilities can be.
Dewitt Jones is one of America's top professional photographers. In his twenty-year career with National Geographic, Dewitt has lived the vision of "celebrating what's right with the world." He found that the creative tools he employed as a photographer had an even deeper application in his life.
Too often we get caught up with a different view of the world. The view that pushes us in the direction of finishing first at all costs, beating the competition, living the law of the jungle. Dewitt reminds us it can become a reality if we believe it stongly enough.
In this new video Dewitt reminds us to choose to see brighter possibilities. Do we really believe they're there? He assures us that we can see them once we believe. And when we believe, we connect with a vision that opens us to possibilities and gives us the courage to soar.
Participants will learn these seven key concepts:
Belive it and you'll see it
Recognize Abundance
Look for Possiblities
Unleash your energy to fix what's wrong
Ride the changes
Take yourself to your edge
Be your best for the world

Featuring John Cleese
To help people understand how to think creatively.
In this lecture-style presentation, John Cleese claims that creativity is not a special talent. People are either in an 'open' or 'closed' state of mind. The closed mode enables people to apply themselves to tasks with vigour and concentration; the open mode is more relaxed and conducive to creative thinking.
Cleese talks about how leaders can induce an open mode in their team members and establish confidence in them to accept that there is a succession of learning steps on the road to total quality.

Everyday Creativity teaches a surprising truth about creativity -- that it's not a magical, mysterious occurrence, but a ready tool that enables you to look at the ordinary and see the extraordinary. Every day we are presented with the opportunity to come up with the next solution, the next right answer to our problems. Our ability to search for new ideas can mean the difference between success and failure. But creativity is often thought of as a phenomenon that is larger than life or out of the ordinary, something reserved for a few "artistic types."
Everyday Creativity features famed National Geographic photographer Dewitt Jones, who challenges such thinking. He uses memorable stories and his own inspirational photos to show us that we can be more creative in everything we do, from problem solving to managing others. You'll feel inspired and encouraged to apply his simple yet powerful creativity techniques to all of your everyday challenges. And, without a doubt, your new solutions will mean the difference between just getting by and being successful. Everyday Creativity is a motivational and beautiful film that is essential for your organization if you believe your people can accomplish the extraordinary.
Famed National Geographic photographer Dewitt Jones inspires viewers to:
see that creativity is a matter of perspective.
see that there's always more than one right answer.
break old patterns.
reframe problems into opportunities.
