Many teens are involved in risky behaviors such as illegal drug use, promiscuity, carrying weapons, and dangerous automobile use. A recent Centers for Disease Control survey found that one in every five teens drives under the influence of alcohol or other drugs. Nearly 22 percent of high school students nationwide admit to carrying a weapon. These numbers make it clear that too many adolescents are putting their lives in jeopardy with dangerous, high-risk behaviors.
This program looks at the nature of risk taking-—both good and bad-—by profiling real teens and the choices they make. The program shows that when positive risk-taking choices are absent, teens are at greater risk for negative, dangerous decision making. Program concludes with an opportunity for your students to assess their own risk profile. The DVD and print materials in the Teacher's Resource Book also suggest and model appropriate and safe risk-taking options.
