ANGER: TRIGGERS AND EFFECTIVE SOLUTIONS FOR TEACHERS AND STUDENTS
A masterclass on how to deal with anger in positive ways

With this DVD teachers can learn powerful strategies to deal with their own anger in three different scenarios:
~ Meeting an angry parent face to face
~ Handling a confrontation with a student
~ Resolving an issue over the telephone

Each scenario shows a negative response followed by a more reasonable, positive way of managing the situation. Summaries of negative and positive points along the way allow the film to be paused and discussed by the viewers. The negative clips demonstrate:
~ Early warning signs, triggers, escalation points and a failure to resolve the situation
~ Overfamiliarity, power struggles, secondary behaviour issues
~ Blame approach, raised voice, lack of empathy, threats
~ Failure to use objective observations/evidence, personal comments, no trust/respect, interrupting
~ Making excuses, being sarcastic, arguing, criticising, overreacting

The more reasoned, considered responses in contrast show:
~ A welcoming attitude
~ How to review the issue and spot the positives
~ Directed questioning to focus on self-management and resolution
~ The importance of pitch, intonation, smiling, keeping your voice enthusiastic and friendly
~ Thinking carefully before you speak and focusing on the facts
~ Non-verbal communication and active listening
~ Recording of important points, review of conversation, agreeing on action plan
