RIGHTS OF APPEAL - THE MENTAL HEALTH ACT
This programme is for patients and relatives who want to know about the rights of appeal under the Mental Health Act 1983.

The programme answers commonly asked questions such as "why am I here?", "how long will I be in hospital?", "what will happen?" and "what are my rights?” These questions are discussed with Dr. Peter Maddocks, Consultant Psychiatrist and Mrs Patricia Carter, an approved social worker, who explain the different reasons for admission and the roles of the people involved in the process. The differing lengths of stay and procedures for discharge are also outlined.

At the end of the programme there are brief interviews with some patients about their own feelings and experiences of admission to hospital under the Mental Heath Act.

The programme is also repeated with a Hindi dub.
