Alzheimer's Disease is the main cause of Dementia and cripples around 200,000 Australians and its only set to get worse due to our ageing population. The race is on to find a way of predicting the onset of the disease which costs the economy between $6 and $7billion a year.
Early diagnosis will not only relieve our health burden, it will allow people to make lifestyle choices which could delay the onset of the disease. Now, a new brain-imaging technique may be able to do just that ¨C predict a diagnosis years before the disease damages the brain. Maryanne Demasi investigates.
