MANAGEMENT AND LEADERSHIP (FEATURING AMERICAN APPAREL)
In 2002, clothing manufacturer American Apparel was in trouble. Founder Dov Charney had started the wholesale T-shirt business out of the trunk of his car while still in college. Now, the company had grown to such a degree that it was having a hard time keeping up with demand. Dov realized he needed help making the necessary changes to production. Marty Bailey had worked in the T-shirt industry for nearly 20 years. It is characteristic of Dov's leadership style that he found Marty Bailey, the best in the business, to oversee operations and then gave him a free hand.
