In the last hundred years, tuberculosis in America came full circle from being a serious threat, to being a forgotten disease of the past, to returning as a serious threat in the 1980s and 90s. Today, TB is under control again in the U.S., but it remains a serious threat worldwide with approximately 9 million new cases reported each year. This program presents the recommendations for controlling the spread of TB developed by the CDC so that nurses and other healthcare workers can protect their patients¡ªand themselves¡ªfrom this serious disease.
